One of the original leaders of Afenifere and a devoted Awoist, Papa Ayo Fasanmi has gone to be with his ancestors. The elder statesman turned 94 in September last year.
Papa Fasanmi was a Senator on the platform of UPN during the Second Republic. He hailed from Ekiti State.
Till his death, he was one of the true disciples of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Senator Fasanmi died on Wednesday night after a brief illness according to a family source.
He said: “Papa suffered from age-related illness. He was admitted to hospital two weeks ago, in the course of which he was placed on oxygen.”
But, according to the source, Papa recovered a few days ago before his situation later deteriorated which later led to his transition.
The news of his death is yet to filter in, but many will thank God that Papa lived to a ripe old age.
President Muhammadu Buhari had extolled Pa Fasanmi’s courage in standing for democratic governance and fighting for democratic ideals and values.
